Just two ingredients: espresso and gelato (ice cream) and you end up with an easy dessert.
Or, in my case, breakfast. Drinking coffee too late in the day keeps me up at night, but having this first thing in the day solves that problem in a very fine way. And much more tasty than bulletproof coffee!
Typically affogato (affogato al cafe is ‘drowned in coffee’ in Italian) is made with vanilla gelato, but chocolate’s what I’m stocking these days making this a mocha-flavoured start to the day. Sometimes, a shot of liqueur such as Amaretto is poured over after the espresso but there is a limit to what kind of mischief I’ll get up to that early in the morning.
Put a few scoops of gelato in a cold cup.
Pour about one ounce of hot espresso per scoop over the gelato.
